Welcome to the website for REACH capacity building in Asia. This website and the projects described are funded by the European Commission under the Asia-Invest Programme, and aims at improving the capacity for REACH compliance in China, India, Pakistan and the ASEAN countries.
The European regulation for Registration, Authorisation and Evaluation of Chemicals is important to secure the safety of the environment and human and animal health in Europe. The regulation is highly extensive, and has been described as “the most wide-ranging and important piece of EU legislation in 20 years”. The range and scope of the regulation, which also includes imported chemicals and responsibilities for importers to prove the safety of their products, makes the potential impacts from REACH on world trade patterns substantial.
The REACH capacity building project seeks to minimise unnecessary trade impacts from REACH in the Asian region, particularly through building REACH capacity and understanding of the regulation among small and medium sized companies. The project also aims to provide information to European companies seeking trade partners in South and East Asia. This website provides information about current and past capacity building in Asia, and through the REACH capacity network, contact information to Asian SMEs with awareness and understanding of REACH.
